    ‘Mapro Schoolympics’ set for a grand fourth season ( Mapro Schoolympics 2019 )

    The popular sports event, which garners tremendous response, will begin in Pune on November 19.

    This year’s Schoolympics will see healthy participation of 460 schools in Pune and 150 schools in Kolhapur.

    The Schoolympics will give a chance to the students and schools in Pune and districts as well as schools from Kolhapur to showcase their talent in 15 individual and 7

    The essence of organising an event of such a magnitude is to provide a platform for school children to showcase their skills in whatever sports disciplines they are good at as hope to cultivate Olympians of future.

    The team sports events include Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Volleyball while the individual events will have Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Shooting, Skating, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis and Wrestling.

    Like last year, the overall team championship will be decided on the basis of points earned as per the medals won. The teams will get 15 points for gold medal, 9 for silver, and 3 for bronze.

    In the individual events, the player getting gold will get 5 points, and those winning silver and bronze will get 3 and 1 point respectively.

    The school gaining maximum points will be able to win the cash prizes and trophy.  This is the fourth edition of Sakal Schoolympics.

    Earlier, the competitions were held in the years 2014, 2016 and 2017.

    THE SCHEDULE:

    - The Mapro Schoolympics will be held in two cities, Pune and Kolhapur.

    - Pune: November 19 onwards.

    - Kolhapur: November 22 onwards.

    - Number of medals at stake.

    - Pune schools: 2390, Kolhapur: 2000.
